  • About Course

    Desktop publishing programs teach students how to design and layout documentation in a variety of mediums. Students also learn about the production phases of publication.

    Desktop publishing combines the skills of graphic design, layout and production of a variety of published products, using a variety of software tools. This course will focus on using desktop publishing software to effectively communicate messages in printed form. The goal of this course is to use the combination of type, color, illustrations and images to produce professional printed materials. This course will teach a combination of graphic design skills and software skills. Each class will consist of equal parts lecture and hands-on software experience. The software being taught is Adobe Photoshop 7.0, and Adobe pagemaker 7.0.

  • Objectives

    1.students will be able to understand the fundamentals of Multimedia and will be able to work using MS WORD which is useful for Desktop Publishing.

    2.Student will be able to experience & implement the Desk Top Publishing.

    3.Students will understand the importance of preplanning a document including creating a thumbnail sketch.

    4.Students will create multiple‐page documents by inserting and deleting pages and using facing pages.
    5.Students will understand that documents are printed on different types of paper that have different sizes, weights, and finishes.
    6.Students will understand that the focal point is the visual element that is the center of interest on the page or set of facing pages.

  • Career Prospects

    A number of career opportunities have come up in the market for desktop publishers. Not only do private sector enterprises hire desktop publishers, but many government sector organizations, such as Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and several other public sector undertakings which have their own publishing divisions, also recruit proficient desktop publishers. On completion of the desktop publishing course, candidates can be easily absorbed in any publishing house or press.
